BCPA is very excited to announce that in 2026, we are doing two, back-to-back workshops in the Pacific Northwest with fellow photographer, author, and workshop leader, Rod Barbee of (you guessed it) Rod Barbee Photo Workshops. I have known Rod a long time through website design and The Turning Gate, and we bonded years ago through a love of photography and sharing a similar philosophy of this art form and the teaching, mentoring, and critiquing of it. And an appreciation of red wine!

Join our special, intensive, five-day photography workshop along the stunning Oregon coastline.

With sea cliffs that dip down to the Pacific Ocean, huge waves crashing against dramatic rocks, sea mists that can add mystery and mood, an historic lighthouse built in the late 1800s, long beaches, the Coquille River, estuaries, tidal pools with sea stars and anemones, and even cranberry bogs, there is more than enough to keep anyone busy photographing.

And, if we are lucky, we may even see some sea lions. Depending upon the year and tides, sometimes sand painting, too.

The weather is eclectic here, ranging from sun to fog and rain. It all makes for some wonderful images. Remember to check out the YouTube video “Blue Skies, Who Needs-em”.

We are in a mother lode of photographic opportunities, so we will not have to travel far to find plenty of variety to challenge us. This is also a great workshop for “spousal units,” our affectionate term for husbands, wives, and significant others who often join us.

Regardless of your level, you’ll be able to celebrate your passion for photography, hone your seeing and imaging skills, and learn about the magic of light to make wonderful photographs. (Click here for instructor galleries.) And don’t forget our great and fun critique sessions that set us apart from many photography workshops!

When making your plans, it is critical that you plan on arriving for our first session. Our newcomers should be ready to go at noon, while our seasoned alumni can wait until 12:30 or 1:00 (we will let you know ahead of the workshop start).

We tend to stay over the night that the workshop ends, and for those who want to join us, we usually go out shooting and dine one last evening together.

So join us and and note that we are offering a twofer discount to those who also join us for Olympic National Park.

Deposit & Cancellation Policy

Our fees qualify for discounts in some cases.  Deposits are due with the application (generally 1/4 fee), with subsequent installments four months (1/2 fee) and two months (1/4 fee) out. Exceptions are noted on individual workshop pages. Check out our Terms and Conditions page. And this is a great location to bring a non-photographing guest with you. They need to pay for their own expenses, of course, but there is no fee for them to join us. We have many "spousal units" alumni who have joined us multiple times over the years.

Equipment Recommended:

You will need your camera, an assortment of lenses, including your foot zoom, but that said, Margo's late mentor, Ernst Haas, always preached to carry less and see more. You will need a working knowledge of the basics of your camera (please "play" with your camera before coming — a workshop is NOT the time to bring a new piece of equipment that will take your concentration away from your seeing and composing), your camera manual, a proper tripod and ball head - see our "Tripods & Ball Heads blog," a rested brain, and a willingness to have fun, take chances, "make mistakes" that may turn out to be happy successes, and laugh a lot!

Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures

Margo Taussig Pinkerton and her late husband, Arnold “Arnie” Zann, were a team of working fine-art photographers whose images have been widely published in most major domestic and international magazines. They were also privileged to work for top Fortune 500 corporations. After 9/11, Margo and Arnie retired from editorial and commercial work and put thier efforts into the workshops that Margo started back in the earlyh\ 80s, ones that Arnie and she brought to their current level, and that Margo continues to run. Her passion for photography is infectious, and she loves sharing a lifetime of professional experiences with her participants.
