The ‘ultra-luxury’ Pico Bonito Lodge is one of Central America’s hottest rainforest destinations, a paradise that’s home to half of Honduras’s 700 bird species—from the brilliant blue Lovely Cotinga to the uncommon Keel-billed Motmot to an array of hummingbirds!.

Situated between two fast-moving rivers—the Coloradito and the Corinto—the luxury lodge nestles in the lap of Pico Bonito National Park, where 270,000 acres of tropical rainforest rise from near sea level to the 8,000-foot peak that gives the park its name. Much of this land is unexplored and unexploited. Jaguars and Pumas still hunt here as howler monkeys roar to proclaim their territory.

The photo workshop will include a Macro focus on reptiles and amphibians as well as flowers and butterflies. We will have special set-ups to photograph hummingbirds in the gardens and around feeders. We will also visit a gorgeous wetland reserve where we can find crocodiles, monkeys and many species of waterbirds, including the unusual Boat-billed Heron.

Our last three nights will be in a quaint town outside the Mayan ruins of Copan. Here we will enjoy not only the ruins, but also Scarlet Macaws in flight, local people and traditional architecture full of color!

WILDSIDE NATURE TOURS

Kevin Loughlin was raised to appreciate nature while exploring the woodlands of Pennsylvania as a child. At age six, during a family trip through the American West, Kevin became fascinated with photography as well seeing the new and different birds throughout North America. Instilled with a love for travel and seeking new, exciting destinations he felt a desire to share his experiences with others and in 1993 he created Wildside.

Kevin’s photographs and articles have appeared in publications such as Nature Photographer, WildBird, Audubon and Philadelphia Magazines, as well as the many natural history books.

Kevin teaches beginning birding classes and nature photography classes through several adult education venues as well as through seminars and workshops for groups, organizations and schools.
