HIGHLIGHTS

  • We’ll use only exclusive, private game reserves that are free of crowds, allow off-road travel, and have luxurious accommodations.
  • We’ll visit we’ll visit both Timbavati and the Sabi Sands, both known for being the best places in South Africa to photograph predators, as well as elephants, rhinos, and other big game. In Timbavati, there are regular incredible sightings of lions, leopards, and also a good chance of wild dogs and occasionally cheetahs.  In Sabi Sands, we’ll stay at Londolozi – recently recognized as the #1 Hotel in the World by Conde Nast and simply the best place in the world for photographing leopards. It also offers great opportunities for lions, elephants, white rhinos, and other African classics.
  • For all game drives on the tour, each participant will have an entire row to themselves for easy shooting from both sides of the vehicle and to comfortably accommodate your gear.
  • Our bush flights are private charter flights for our group only, enabling us to bring more gear.
  • Travel as a small group and receive one-to-one instruction from professional wildlife photographer Suzi Eszterhas. Suzi has published over 100 magazine covers and feature stories and has vast experience photographing African wildlife (including 3 years living in a bushcamp).

MORE DETAILS

After an evening and an overnight at a luxury hotel in Johannesburg, we’ll fly by private charter plane to Timbavati Private Game Reserve, located in the Greater Kruger area. We’ll spend four nights at the luxurious Kings Camp, which is world-renowned for it’s incredible wildlife sightings. By being on a private game reserve, we’ll also have the advantage of working with animals without crowds of other vehicles, which is a common problem in other parks and reserves throughout Africa. Although Timbavati is known for the Big 5, it is particularly famous for it’s leopard and lion sightings, as well as its population of wild dogs which are regularly seen by visitors. Although wild dogs roam over large areas and can never be guaranteed, we’ll have good chances of finding the reserve’s resident packs.

We’ll then take a short drive to Londolozi Private Game Reserve in the Sabi Sands. This reserve is world renowned as a “predator’s paradise”, and has a long history of catering to wildlife filmmakers and photographers; it is THE best place in the world for leopard photography. It is also known for it’s exceptional Big 5 game viewing, so we’ll also have great chances of photographing lions, hyenas, elephants, rhinos, giraffes and other classic African plains wildlife. Here the animals are abundant and are very habituated to vehicles, and our drivers/guides are some of the best trackers in Africa. By again being on a private game reserve, there will be no crowding of vehicles. Though we have chosen Londolozi for its unparalleled wildlife photography opportunities, another perk of being at Londolozi is that we’ll be staying in a world famous luxurious lodge and enjoying fine cuisine for all meals.

We’ll then fly by private charter back to Johannesburg (or continue onto to the Cheetahs of Phinda extension).

ACCOMMODATION

Kings Camp is a luxury lodge positioned on the edge of a savanna plain scattered with Acacia trees. A waterhole located right in front of the camp attracts a wide variety of wildlife day and night. Suites are luxuriously equipped with air-conditioning, Victorian ball-and-claw bath, indoor and outdoor double showers, a fully stocked mini-bar and private verandah. Dark tones of wood and thatch offset the natural colors of the bush. Kings Camp is dedicated to a gracious style of hospitality from a bygone era, combined with a flexibility that puts the comfort and requests of guests first.

Londolozi was recently recognized as the #1 Hotel in the World with the Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Award. It was also the first game reserve in the world to be accorded Relais & Châteaux status. Londolozi Varty Camp offers eight luxurious chalets with magnificent views over the Sand River. All rooms have private swimming pools framed by timber decks over the riverine bush. The living spaces are raised off the ground and shaded under a cathedral of trees. This camp is also renowned for its fine cuisine.
