Situated to the southeast of Central Europe, Slovenia touches the Alps to the northwest, and the Mediterranean to the southwest. Historically at the crossroads of many important European trade routes, Slovenia’s language, culture and architecture draw from many influences. In Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital, baroque facades mix with the 20th-century architecture of native Jože Plečnik, whose iconic Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) spans the tightly curving Ljubljanica River. Slovenia’s terrain is largely mountainous, and the country is known for its alpine forests and lakes. The town of Bled, on spring fed Lake Bled, boasts a church-adorned island and a cliffside medieval castle. Other lakes, such as Bohinj, offer equally scenic views of the Julian Alps.

Our 10-day Slovenia Workshop is led by Randy Hanna and Luka Esenko. Both are well-versed in Slovenia; Luka lives and guides in the country full time. We’ll be traveling by comfortable minivan, staying in well-chosen high-quality accommodations, and eating wonderful local foods. We’ll be photographing a wealth of natural features, as well as the agricultural lands, markets, culture, and architecture of this varied land. Along the way, you’ll learn the finer points of composition and the “art of seeing.” We’ll spend time in the field helping you with long exposures, panoramas, HDR, and night photography too. We will also spend time in the “classroom” where we’ll do image reviews and post-processing with Lightroom. Expect to work hard, and to learn a lot!
