California’s Eastern Sierra region offers a wealth of dramatic landscapes—it is a land of rugged steep escarpments, and rolling, sage-covered hills, otherworldly limestone formations risen from an alkaline lake, and deserted ghost towns crumbling back to the earth. Some of the oldest trees in the world still cling to the region’s mountain ridges, standing sentry over the plains below. From Mount Whitney—the highest mountain in the lower 48 states—to the Eastern entrance of Yosemite National Park, the Eastern Sierras provide endless opportunities for exploration.

We’ve planned our Eastern Sierra Workshop for autumn, when the Owens Valley reaches peak color. Join Muench Workshops pros Greg Vaughn and Lisa LaPointe on a journey to photograph the yellow aspens of June Lake, the tufa columns in Mono Lake, the rounded granite forms of the Alabama Hills, and much more. With a 1:4 instructor-to-guest ratio, there will be plenty of individual attention and opportunities for image reviews. Expect to learn about composition, the art of seeing, timed exposures, focus stacking, and post-processing in Lightroom and Photoshop.

We’ll be staying at comfortable hotels in both Lee Vining and Bishop; all provide ready access to our intended locations. Muench Workshops holds all necessary permits for this workshop from the Inyo County Forest Service.
