New England is known as a premier fall color destination, and one of my favorite New England locations for fall color photography is Maine’s Acadia National Park. One of the things that that I like about Acadia is that many of its treasures are not the grand landscape shots, but more intimate landscape images that really evoke the feeling of autumn.

Join photographer Mary Louise Ravese in mid-October, during the peak of fall color, for a women’s photography retreat to explore some of my favorite, quieter locations in Acadia National Park. The event combines small group photography in the field (3-5 participants) with supportive image feedback and image editing sessions in a comfortable vacation home setting. Lodging in a 4-bedroom, 3.5 bath, 4000 sq ft vacation home is included in the fee.

If you are a woman who enjoys pursuing nature photography in a relaxed, nurturing environment, this event is for you. Together we’ll explore traditional and creative photography techniques including intentional camera movement, multiple exposures, long exposures, etc. Conditions permitting we’ll even try to take advantage of a supermoon event happening during our time together.

Bella Vista Photography is an authorized permittee of the National Parks Service.

The workshop fee includes:

Small group photography instruction from Mary Louise including handouts
Hands-on photo shoots in Acadia National Park, Maine
Supportive image feedback on a selection of participant images
Image editing demonstrations by Mary Louise and her guidance on editing your images
Lodging (4 nights in a 4-bedroom, 3.5 bathroom, 4,000 sq ft vacation home)

Not included:

Flights (I recommend flying to/from Bangor, ME or Portland, ME)
Ground Transportation (car rentals are available from the airport)
Meals
Acadia National Park entrance fee (you can use an American the Beautiful Park Pass)

A minimum deposit of $742.50 is required at registration. The remaining balance will be automatically charged September 5th 2024.

Cancellation Policy
We require a minimum number of participants to be able to offer this workshop. In case you need to withdraw from the workshop, please notify us by email and phone as soon as possible so we can try to fill your spot and minimize your cancellation fees.

Cancellation by August 15, 2024: If we can fill your spot, full refund minus $100 cancellation fee. (No refund if your spot cannot be filled. Please be aware that there is no guarantee that we will be able to fill your spot.)

Cancellation after September 5, 2024: No refunds.

Cancelled Workshops: We reserve the right to cancel a workshop if it is undersubscribed, an instructor is incapacitated, or there is a serious unforeseen circumstance making it extremely undesirable or impossible to photograph at the destination. Workshop cancellations for these reasons are rare. In this case, we will issue you a full refund minus any expenses we incur, please allow up to 30 days for processing.

Travel Insurance: We are not responsible for any travel or other costs you may incur in the event that the workshop needs to be cancelled, or you need to withdraw. Therefore, we recommend you hold off making non-refundable flight arrangements until we notify you that minimum workshop enrollment has been met. While we don't require you purchase travel insurance, it is strongly encouraged.

CAMERA GEAR:

Camera – DSLR or mirrorless, full frame or cropped sensor. Also, bring the camera manual should you need to consult it. Cell Phone camera as backup is better than no camera and good for snaps of your group.
Lenses – Lenses in the following ranges: Wide angle (16-35) normal to medium telephoto (24-120) telephoto (100-500). Extension tubes for close ups.
Non-abrasive Lens Cleaning Cloth and Wipes.
Tripod – Sunrise, sunset, twilight and nighttime light levels are too low to photograph properly without a sturdy tripod. A lightweight carbon fiber tripod with a ball head is recommended.
Lots of Memory Card Storage – We use fast 64GB cards, good for stills & video.
Camera Battery Charger and Extra Batteries
Sensor Cleaning Tools (optional)
Polarizing filter(s) to fit each of your lenses or step-up rings to fit each lens.
Neutral Density Filters
Shutter Release – You can use a locking cable release, a wireless remote, or the camera’s self-timer
Rain Cover – For camera and lens protection.
Laptop Computer – for downloading, processing and viewing your images.
Image Processing Software – Good choices include Adobe Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, or Elements.
Back-up device – Such as an external hard drive.
Flash Drive – For sharing images.

Mary Louise Ravese is an award winning fine art photographer specializing in nature and travel photography from locations across the world. She is the principle photographer for Bella Vista Photography, which she founded in 2001. Mary Louise is an experienced photography instructor who has trained hundreds of amateur photographers. She enjoys teaching on a wide range of topics related to nature, travel and creative photography. Many of her students have gone on to earn awards for photographs made following their training with her. She has a unique ability to explain the technical and artistic aspects of photography in a clear, easy to understand manner. Her personable and patient approach puts students at ease, and gives them the confidence to learn at a comfortable pace. All her workshops are well thought out, researched, scouted and planned to give participants an enjoyable learning experience.
