Join Muench Workshops for a seven night journey on foot through one of the most scenic regions in Europe—the Italian Dolomites! The Dolomites are a range of jagged mountains located in northeastern Italy. They form a part of the Southern Limestone Alps and extend from the River Adige in the west to the Piave Valley in the east. A number of long-distance paths, called alte vie (high paths) and numbered from one to eight, cross the Dolomites. Italy has a long tradition of mountain hiking, and a network of mountain huts have sprung up over the last 100 years to accommodate hikers on the high paths. These huts—called rifugi, or rifugios—vary in their degree of luxury, but all provide a cozy bunk, plenty of warm blankets, and a toasty fire. You can count on warm camaraderie, a great night’s sleep, and plenty of comfort food to sustain you during the day.

You’ll be expertly guided along the way by Muench Workshops co-founder David Rosenthal, and local guide Luka Esenko. Both are veteran landscape photographers who will share with you their tips and techniques for best capturing the magic and tradition of this region. Expect breathtaking vistas, a variety of atmospheric conditions, and plenty to photograph! Over the course of the workshop, you’ll learn about correct exposure, focusing, camera settings, how to focus stack for extreme sharpness through an entire scene, how to best utilize neutral density and polarizing filters, and much more.

A reasonable level of fitness is required for this trip—you will be hiking between two to four hours per day, on trails at elevations around 7,000–9,000 feet. No technical climbing is involved, and elevation gain will be moderate.
