Rodeo and Western Photography Workshop – 6 Day

The old West… for many these words conjure up images of times gone by. In small town Texas the lifestyle can still be seen and captured today. Through the experience of photographing rodeo and western life, you’ll learn tips and techniques you can use in all areas of photography… lifestyle, sports, portraits and nature photography. This class brings it all to you, with a western flair.

The workshop will be hosted at the 9 Bar Ranch, a 12,ooo acre cattle ranch and hunting lodge, located in Decatur, TX. Experience life on a real Texas ranch and capture images of cowboys working the cattle in the field and up close in the pens. The workshop will feature 2 nights of rodeo action. Shoot behind the scenes, as the cowboys and cowgirls prepare for the event. You will shoot cattle dogs, herding and bringing the animals within feet of your lens. One evening, the class will take part in a chuck wagon dinner on the ranch and a sunrise breakfast the next morning. See daily life in this community where dress up is usually starched jeans, boots and cowboy hat.

Photojournalist, Joe Duty, has been teaching photography classes locally for 12 years. When he decided to expand that business and share his knowledge to a nationwide group the questions was, “how can I provide a photographic adventure that people can’t find just anywhere?” With his knowledge of the sport of rodeo and contacts throughout the community, Joe will take you on a true Western photographic expedition.

Skills you will learn include: specific camera settings to capture the best images for shooting rodeo, portraits and lighting, using flash, lifestyle, HDR, shooting at night and seeing images with a creative eye.
